Obsidian Market Update 10/16/20

conversations with clients

Good morning!

This week, we’re going to talk through some of our thoughts about what’s going on in the world of the stock market in relation to the pandemic and the congressional fights over the stimulus package. Then, we have some heartwarming stories about kids that will definitely brighten your day.

We asked our own Todd Feldman to chat with us about how he’s approaching conversation with clients at this time. “As always, we are managing portfolios according to our clients’ specific long and short term goals,” he said. “It’s important to remember that short term events often have very little impact on long term financial goals.”

“Before every meeting, we go back through the client’s financial plan and really study it to ensure we’re all on the same page,” Todd continued. “That way, we can answer any questions and help them understand that we don’t need to worry too much about moments in time when we have a long-term strategy at play.”

Over the course of a client’s career and retirement, many things will happen that will both help and hurt the market. This is why we work hard to actively manage portfolios to the best advantage of our clients. “We’re here to guide you,” Todd explained. “Remember that the investment portfolio is only one spoke in the wheel of your overall financial life, and one that we are always keeping an eye on for you.”

Now for some tales of uplift. This year has been hard on kids who wanted to celebrate their birthdays in the usual way, and one amazing sister went above and beyond for her brother. Ten year old Ella Olsen knew her eight year old brother Sam had been looking forward to a Disney trip scheduled for April that had to be postponed, and eventually canceled. So she spent six weeks designing a Disney experience in their Minnesota home–even with rides. To see pictures and videos from this adorable event, click here.

Another family is making a baseball teams’ worth of children’s dreams come true. Maxine and Jacob Young went from no kids to nine kids in just four years. They agreed to foster four siblings and eventually adopted them. Meanwhile, they gave birth to their son, and then found out they were pregnant with spontaneous quadruplets–a near statistical impossibility. Their beautiful family is dedicated to raising nine kids under eight (and eight kids under five!). Imagine the pandemic homeschooling challenges.
