Obsidian Market Update 7/9/21
Hello friends!
We hope you all had a terrific holiday weekend and enjoyed some summer activities. This week, we’re going to take a look at the booming travel season and what that means for the economy (plus some safety advice for ocean lovers) and then hear from two more members of the Obsidian team.
First, United Airlines announced recently that they will be purchasing a record-setting $30 billion in Boeing and AirBus jets. The airline said this will add over 500 new planes to their fleet and allow them to significantly increase the number of routes and seat offerings over the next several years. They also anticipate this move will help with job creation and commerce. We’re glad to see this indicator that travel is resurging.
For those traveling to the beach this summer, especially the Gulf coast, it’s worth learning how to keep yourself safe in a rip current. Rip currents are more common in the Gulf because of double sandbar formations near the shores in some areas, such as Panama City. Rip currents kill more Gulf beachgoers every year than any other weather event. Read more here to learn what to do if you get caught in one.
Now for our updates from the team! First up is Tiffany Saldivar.
What did you take away from the whole 2020 experience?
Learning how to balance and separate family time and work plus sharing space with the family at the same time.
What are you looking forward to now that things are getting back to normal?
I look forward to traveling internationally.
Next is Kelsey Easter:
What did you take away from the whole 2020 experience?
Though 2020 taught us a lot, one of my biggest takeaways was to slow down and appreciate the small things. I learned just how much we take for granted — our health, family, close friends, technology (FaceTime), teachers!!
What are you looking forward to now that things are getting back to normal?
I am looking forward to seeing our friends and enjoying our travel more. I might be most excited about my kids going back to school. They need the socialization, and after a year and a half, they need some time away from each other.
That’s it for us this week! We’ll be back with you next week as always.
