Obsidian Market Update 1/29/21

Obsidian Market Update 1/29/21

Hello friends!

This week we’re going to highlight an interesting piece about which party is better for the economy–it turns out, there’s no simple answer. Then we have an exciting announcement about one of our team members and an interview to get to know her better.

Now that the federal elections are over and the new officeholders inaugurated, which party is better for the economy? It turns out; it depends on whether you mean in the presidency or Congress and what you mean by “the economy.” Wallethub put together a terrific graphic that we encourage you to take a look at.

Here are the basics:

  • The best overall mix is a Democrat as president and a Republican-controlled congress.
  • The S&P does better with a Democrat as president and a Republican congress.
  • The GDP does best when Democrats have both the presidency and congress, as does job growth.
  • Employment does best with a Democrat as president and an evenly split congress.

Check out the graphic for more detail!

We have some in-house good news to share. Some of you may already know Becky Clawson, who has been part of our marketing team for the past two years. We’re delighted that she’s moving into the role of our Professional Service Partner. We sat down with her for a chat to help all of you get to know her better.

Tell us about your new role with Obsidian and why our clients will love working with you.

You can count on me to help you! Whether it’s to answer a quick question, to point you to an associate, be a giver of friendly nudges, or to be a sounding board, I’m here for you. As a former owner of a busy, 24/7 specialty & emergency animal hospital, I understand the challenges and rewards of being a business owner.

What was your role with Obsidian before coming on in this capacity?

After selling the animal hospital, I went back to my roots in marketing. Perhaps you’re thinking marketer turned owner of an animal hospital? Let’s say there have been lots of twists and turns in my career path, all of which I’m tremendously grateful.

What will the new role be like?

Well, I hope it’s one that our clients find to be helpful. Time is a precious, especially when you’re a business owner. When you choose to invest some of your time into planning, we want to invest in making our process easy and manageable for everyone. I may not always know the answers to every question, however, I’m always happy to facilitate getting answers. Plus, I love meeting new people, so I’m really excited to get to know more of you!

What is your life like outside of work?

Crazy and so much fun! I’ve been married to my wonderful husband, Jordan for nearly ten years. He’s a jazz musician and professor. We live in downtown Frederick, Maryland, with our two kiddos, Logan (8) and Audra (6), two kitties, a dog, a frog, and a fish–we love animals! We deeply care for our vibrant town, so while it’s been a little challenging during COVID, we’re always looking for ways to show our community support. We’re avid runners and do several half marathons every year and are looking forward to doing another marathon in 2021–we did the Chicago marathon in 2019. We love hiking, biking, and being outdoors. We also started recently using inflatable kayaks. We may look a little crazy bundled up in all of our snow gear floating down the river, but the kids love an adventure and so do we!

How has COVID affected your work/life balance?

Pre-COVID I worked some days in the office and some at home, so being at home full-time was an easy transition. Navigating life with everyone at home full-time plus virtual schooling has been….interesting.

Have a wonderful weekend!
